From the Desk of the President (October, 2003)

Vicki Moore is my guest columnist this month as she had some very on-target thoughts to share which I felt trumped anything I could write this month.

However, there are a few items of interest to Local 34 that I want to share…

An election was held at the September 17, 2003 Executive Board meeting to fill the vacant Para-professional Executive Board Member-at-Large seat.  John Bowman won that election and was sworn in at the meeting. Please join me in welcoming Brother Bowman to the E-Board and thank him for the efforts he will expend on our behalf.

Evelyn Nelson resigned from the Recording Secretary position and David Heins has resigned from his Central Labor Union delegate position. The E-Board voted to hold a special election at the October 15, 2003 E-Board meeting to fill those positions as well as the CLUC delegate position which became vacant when Nancy Fleming-Norton retired.  So, if you have an interest in serving the Local in any of the above capacities, please contact me at 348-0266 or by e-mail by no later than Monday, October 13, 2003 to put your name forward.

We have completed the health insurance review and the Labor-Management Health Care Committee is recommending that the County Board approve the proposals from Health Partners and Blue Cross/Blue Shield.  If you would like more information about rates, etc., please contact me, Dennis Miller or Andrea Lennox.

Negotiations are moving slowly. Since things will change before this newsletter is at your desk, please check our web site for up-to-date information.
