From the Desk of the President (November, 2015)

Hello all,

This will be relatively short article for me this month – so much to do and not enough time to get it accomplished (the story of all our lives!).

Open enrollment for health/dental/vision insurance and flexible spending: this will take place November 9th to November 23rd. The Ad-vantage plans for HealthPartners/Park Nicollet; HCMC and their clinics/NorthPoint; and Fair-view/Health East/North Memorial will all remain in place along with the Standard Insurance plan.

The County will continue to offer the voluntary dental plan and will have a new benefit for 2016 – a voluntary vision plan. You can also add or make changes to the flexible spending account at this time. You can add or remove dependents from your insurance during open enrollment if those changes need to be made. Please read all of the information carefully and make any changes to your benefits in the time set forth.

Local 34 received a thank you from the AFSCME Council 5 Veteran’s Initiative for a $1000.00 contribution we made. All the money contributed to this initiative is, in turn, given to the five Minnesota VA facilities, all staffed by AFSCME members. Those funds have been used to buy exercise equipment, take veterans on fishing trips, etc. What better way to say thank you to our veterans than to contribute to this fund? November 11th is Veteran’s Day. Please take time to thanks the veterans in your life for giving of themselves and their lives to protect us. And re-member to thank our Veteran Service Representatives for providing such fantastic services to our Hennepin County veterans.

November is also the time when we celebrate normal sleeping hours after the clock is set back to standard time (yes!!!!) and Thanksgiving – hopefully with family and friends. However you spend your time this month, enjoy each day.

Jean
