AFSCME Local 34 Governing Board

AFSCME Local 34 is governed by the membership and an Executive Board whose officers are elected each year. Nominations for officers are taken annually at the February and March General Membership meetings. Elections for any contested offices are held in April with all officers being sworn into their new positions at the May General Membership meeting. In the event of a vacancy in any position during the year, a replacement is elected by the Executive Board at its regular monthly meeting.

Democratic Government: We are a democratic union. As members, we possess the supreme decision-making authority in our union. We conduct our affairs at regular meetings, which are held monthly. All full dues paying union members have an equal voice and vote at these meetings.

Between membership meetings, our local is governed by the  Executive Board, which meets monthly to review union business, make decisions and set policy. Decisions of the Executive Board are subject to reversal by the membership.

The Local 34 Executive Board: consists of 15 elected members: a president, two vice-presidents, two chief stewards, recording secretary, membership secretary, treasurer, sergeant-at-arms, and six members-at-large.

Stewards: The co-chief stewards recommend and the General Membership ratifies the appointment of all Local 34 stewards annually, or as needed throughout the year.

Trustees: Local 34 also has three trustees charged with the responsibility of auditing the financial records of the local union on an annual basis. One trustee is elected each year on a rotating basis, filling a three year term.
